Who are the squareroots?

For the iCTF 2006, held by the UCSB, a couple of students led by the Research Group for Pratical Informatics 1 formed a group to take part in the competition. The inner core of this group still is active as part of the squareroots. Nowadays, we are supported by the Chair for Software Engineering, held by Prof. Dr. Colin Atkinson.

Where does the name squareroots come from?

The name squareroots is derived from the concept of Mannheim’s inner city. Instead of having street names, the inner city is divided into squares which are labeled with letters and numbers. The second part is derived from the username of the admin on Linux systems – this leads us to “squareroots”.
